The SLC 7-Day Study

A seven day study of a combined insulin cannula and glucose sensor in people with type 1 diabetes
This study aimed to test the feasibility, accuracy, and durability of a new combined continuous glucose monitoring and insulin delivery system worn for 7 days. The study included 40 adults with type 1 diabetes who completed meal tests on days 1, 4, and 7 of wearing the device to test how well the glucose sensor worked and if insulin delivery remained effective over time.
Overall, participants were able to wear the device for 6.3 days. The glucose sensor was reasonably accurate over the 7 days, although accuracy was lower when assessing low blood glucose. The insulin delivery system worked well for the first 3-4 days, but showed signs of reduced effectiveness by days 5-6.
This study demonstrated that it is possible to combine an insulin pump and CGM into one device, but more work is needed to improve the glucose sensor accuracy and maintain consistent insulin delivery for the full 7 days. These results will help inform the design of future combined blood glucose monitoring and insulin delivery systems.
