The Post-Exercise Protein Ingestion Study

The Post-Exercise Protein Ingestion Study

This study will investigate how post-exercise ingestion of protein can cause changes to blood glucose levels between completion of exercise and the first post-exercise meal in adults with diabetes

The Post-Exercise Protein Ingestion Study

The Post-Exercise Protein Ingestion Study

The purpose of this research study is to understand if whey protein ingestion, after resistance exercise, can cause changes to blood glucose levels in the period between exercise completion and first meal post-exercise in adults with type 1 diabetes. This study will compare the effectiveness of four strategies on glucose levels after a meal ingested 3 hours after exercise:

a) consuming a whey protein 30 minutes after resistance exercise

b) consuming the whey protein simultaneously with the post-exercise meal

C) no intervention and the post-RE meal occurs as usual

D)  the current guidelines, which recommend a 25% reduction in insulin dosage at the first meal post-exercise

Participation includes attending the clinical trials centre at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne on at least 5 occasions, and up to 7 occasions.
