In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas produces little or no insulin which is vital to regulate blood glucose. An artificial pancreas uses man-made technology to mimic a human pancreas. Current systems consist of an insulin pump which communicates with a glucose sensor (CGM). The two devices communicate with each other to deliver the correct amount of insulin to maintain healthy blood glucose levels.
