Leanne

Leanne Foster is a social worker with over 30 years experience in
government and healthcare fields. She currently works in management in
public hospitals in Victoria where her own patient experience drives her to
ensure patients are central in their care and treatment. Having lived with
diabetes for nearly 40 years she has become a self proclaimed ‘research guinea pig’ putting up her hand to participate in a range of research trials at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. Leanne has seen a lot of treatment changes in this time and is keen to be on the cutting edge, making these treatments work for her to get the best control she can. Her drive to be involved in research comes from a desire to see the best emerging technologies become available to others with diabetes in Australia. She was the first person in Australia to commence on the 670G ‘closed loop’ trial and might have driven the research team slightly mad sending frequent photos of her CGM trace in the first week of ‘closing the loop’ and threatening to not give it back. When she’s not hooked up to a range of medical equipment,
being bled for science, or being monitored remotely in her sleep from the
other side of the world she can be found plotting her next overseas trip
with her husband, having weekends away with friends or pursing
her creative passions of cooking and handcrafts.
