Dr Bala Krishnamurthy

Dr Krishnamurthy is an experienced clinician researcher and a consultant endocrinologist at Western, Werribee and St Vincent’s Hospitals as well as leading a laboratory at SVI with a focus on achieving antigen-specific tolerance in T1D. He demonstrated that proinsulin is the primary antigen in T1D (J Clin Invest 2006) and has shown that perinatal tolerance to proinsulin is sufficient to prevent autoimmune diabetes (JCI Insight 2016). He is a principal investigator on the BANDIT trial and is Deputy Director of Diabetes Clinical Trials at St Vincent’s Hospital
